the first thing i noticed when starting to look into reviewing short films was that i never saw reviews for shortfilms. throguh deeper research i was able to find a few sites that offered online short film reviews. the first thing i noticed was that these were very different. they was a lot shorter for one. a standard feature lenght film review so this is the first thing i wiull need to consider. feature length reviews are generally upwarsds of 8 paragraphs as can be seen on standard review platforms such as rottan tomatoes.
the seocnd thing i discovered was the detail. reviews are there to help viewers get an informed decison on wetaher the film is worth watching or not. for this reason the review needs to be detailed enough to help the readers fuloly uinderstnad the plot however not too much to giver away the plot. this is easier with a feature length which may have mulitply plots and subplots however with a less than 15 minute shortfilm this isnt an easy task. i often noticed that there was less descirptiuon of the film itself with short films so this will need to be considered also
all the reviews i looked into had some descirption of the filmkaers, eiditors directors and various other main roles within the prodcuton but the shortfilm reviews often had very little to say, probbaly becasue they havent doine much to talk about but nonetheless this in essence becoimes a convwention of short film reviews and will need to be considered.
i also learnt that although there wasnt a set in stone structure to these reviews, there was definately a pattern. i noticed the start of every review had started with reference to the film kaer and a very brief intro to there work for example, the filmaker of the short film rebbot had done previous work and another one i read had explained that the film was his first film. this then often became unwrapped ina higherachy mannor with the more important aspects of the prodcutoon reviewed first then the lesser important parts after. this was then often ended with an conclusive paragraph.
one final aspect of revbiews i learnt was a comdeic element. often the more memerable reviews are the ones which make us laugh. this can be in the form of digs at the productioon team or at charecters within the film hjowver the comedic elemnt i found for me made me remember the film more than the more dull reviews and consequenlty i could remeber the name of the film i was reading and i could not rememb er the name of the films with boring reviews. this definatelky needs to be condisdered.
